how to design your kitchen

The kitchen is emerging as the most often-used room in the house. This is where most home owners spend their money and time. With so many options available nowadays, you can have the ultimate kitchen with carefully though-out plan.

Here are some quick tips on kitchen designs that will bring you the most successful results:

  • The most efficient design for a kitchen is a triangle. There should be an easy navigation between the sink, fridge and stove. Two or three steps between the three points are ideal.
  •
  • A good kitchen should have a good flow-preparation, cooking, clean up. This means allowing enough space for each task and keeps each space separately.
  • It's a good idea to have generous counter space. You should also have counter space on each side of the refrigerator to set things down. You can also add more storage space by adding pull out trays, hidden drawers etc.
  •
  • Think about the little things that makes your life easier, such as a water faucet by the stove, lots of outlet for your appliances, pull out shelves for the pantry, and fewer clutters.
  •
  • Natural materials such as stone and tile are more beautiful than synthetic such as plastic laminates. Concrete is very popular right now as it offers a lot of possibilities. When choosing materials, think about the ease of cleaning and durability such as granite, stainless steel and hardwood.
  •
  • Kitchen cabinetry should look tidy and interesting. Try to avoid lots and lots of cabinetry. Closed storage is best. Unframed glass doors are a nice alternative.
  •
  • Think about the mood you want to creating when lighting a kitchen. Install dimmer whenever possible. Make sure the spot lights are not behind you so not to create shadows. Use under-cabinet lighting to light up work space, recessed ceiling lightings to illuminate traffic area, pendant lighting above the work island, and ceiling-mounted pendant or chandelier above the dining table.
